Nursery Nurse Required

A Nursery Nurse position has become available; it is for a minimum of 30 hours per week (Scheduled between 07:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday).

 Watcombe Childrens Centre Nursery is a 0-8 setting based in Watcombe Torquay. We are looking for a motivated colleague to join our team, who will be responsible for the general care and wellbeing of all children within the setting. You will plan and prepare for enhanced learning and development using EYFS guidelines, and always ensuring that the children’s learning, development, safety and safeguarding needs are being met.

 We offer competitive rates of pay, 4 weeks holiday per year plus bank holidays, and extended holiday over the Christmas period. We also hold two in-house training days per year, and we actively support CPD.

The candidate will need to be well motivated, enthusiastic and preferably have some experience of working with children.

The successful candidate will be required to:

Have a passion for children and childcare

Have a minimum NNEB, NVQ/CACHE level 2 / 3 or equivalent qualification  

Have a sound knowledge of the EYFS

Have a good, professional level of spoken and written English.

Take responsibility of a group of key children.

Plan a range of interesting, age appropriate activities.

Create engaging learning environments.

Have a keen eye for health and safety and safeguarding issues.

Be proactive, self-motivated and have an attention for detail.

Build positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues.

The pay will be £7.08 per hour (for a NVQ level 3) and you will be entitled to 4 weeks holiday plus all Bank Holidays. (The next pay increase is in April)

The successful candidate will need to have a DBS (Disclosure and Baring Service), and this will be paid by the company if you haven’t already joined the Update Service. If you leave before your contract ends then we will be entitled to deduct the cost of the DBS from your last month’s pay. As an employee you will be expected to join the Update Service and this will form part of your terms of contract. You will also be required to sign a Staff Disqualification Declaration form.

Apprentice - Nursery Nurse

This year we are offering an opportunity to those wishing to be employed as an apprentice.  

You would work a minimum of 30hrs a week in the nursery and work towards a level 2 and/or level 3 qualification in childcare.  

We are offering above the apprenticeship rate of pay, for those employed on this programme, and you will receive the ‘national minimum pay’ for your age instead.

To take up this opportunity you will need to:

Enjoy working as part of a team to provide care, developing and learning for children
Be passionate about knowing how children develop, learn and play
Be prepared to work to gain the relevant childcare qualifications and take personal responsibility for this
Work with the setting to support the children and families
You need to be well motivated and have attention to detail to support us in providing the highest standards possible

Nursery Cook

Watcombe Childrens Centre Nursery are looking for a Cook to join our team. The role will include preparing snacks and light meals, from fresh, for about 30 children a day. Duties will also include serving and general kitchen duties.

You will also be required to cook a two course basic meal, for about 30 children during school holidays, also maintain checks and hygiene requirements in the nursery and prepare food orders for shopping.
This role is for 25 hours (minimum) per week. This post requires a person that is passionate and enthusiastic about cooking and can cook basic meals.


A DBS (Disclosure and Baring Service) will be required for the successful candidate (please see application form for more details) and you will need to hold a current Food Hygiene certificate or be prepared to take part in training for one.
