General Cook

Watcombe Childrens Centre Nursery are looking for a Cook to join our team. The role will include preparing snacks and light meals, from fresh, for about 30 children a day. Duties will also include serving and general kitchen duties.

You will also be required to cook a two course basic meal, for about 30 children during school holidays, also maintain checks and hygiene requirements in the nursery and prepare food orders for shopping.
This role is for 25 hours (minimum) per week. This post requires a person that is passionate and enthusiastic about cooking and can cook basic meals.


A DBS (Disclosure and Baring Service) will be required for the successful candidate (please see application form for more details) and you will need to hold a current Food Hygiene certificate or be prepared to take part in training for one.

Nursery Nurse (Permanent)

A Nursery Nurse position has become available; it is for a minimum of 30 hours per week (Scheduled between 07:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday) .

We are looking for a colleague who is able to demonstrate sector experience and competence having worked in childcare organisations. You will be a Key person carrying out all related responsibilities in building relations with children and families. This includes the general care and wellbeing of all children in your care, observe care of the nursery resources and use all available equipment to help enhance the childrens learning. They will plan and prepare rooms for enhanced learning and development using EYFS guidelines, and always ensuring that the childrens learning, development, safety and safeguarding needs are being met.

The candidate will need to be well motivated, enthusiastic and preferably have some experience of working with children from 0 through to 5 years old.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Have a passion for children and childcare
  • Have a minimum NNEB, NVQ/CACHE level 2 / 3 or equivalent qualification (or above).
  • Have a sound knowledge of the EYFS
  • Have a good, professional level of spoken and written English.
  • Have a minimum of one year experience of working with children under 5, daycare experience is desirable.
  • Take responsibility of a group of key children.
  • Plan a range of interesting, age appropriate activities.
  • Create engaging learning environments.
  • Have a keen eye for health and safety and safeguarding issues.
  • Be proactive, self-motivated and have an attention for detail.
  • Be an extrovert; have an outgoing personality which is open and caring towards children.
  • Build positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues.

The pay will be £6.87 per hour (for a NVQ level 3) and you will be entitled to 4 weeks holiday plus all Bank Holidays.

The successful candidate will need to have a DBS (Disclosure and Baring Service), and this will be paid by the company if you haven’t already joined the Update Service. If you leave before your contract ends then we will be entitled to deduct the cost of the DBS from your last month’s pay. As an employee you will be expected to join the Update Service and this will form part of your terms of contract.

Deputy Manager (Maternity Leave Cover)

Deputy Manager (Maternity Leave Cover)


We require an Early Years Practitioner, on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave, with experience to support the Manager and monitor high quality care at our wonderful Nursery. Enthusiasm, flexibility and an immense desire to promote excellent care and education for children (0-8) are a must, along with the ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with parents and guardians.

You will have the ability to plan, guide, and help motivate the team of hard working and dedicated staff who have a fantastic team spirit. Previous experience in a similar post/managing staff/supervising is essential. 

You will need to hold a minimum NVQ Level 3 in a childcare related qualification (such as CCLD, or equivalent) with a sound knowledge of EYFS.

Hours per week: 40 Salary: £17,472
